The Birth of an Idea: Why We Created Enchanted Reads
Part 1 of our series on building Enchanted Reads. Discover the moment of inspiration that sparked the creation of a new kind of reading app.

The Birth of an Idea: Why We Created Enchanted Reads
Part 1 of "The Making of Enchanted Reads"
Every great project begins with a moment of frustration, inspiration, or both. For Enchanted Reads, it was definitely both.
The Frustration
As passionate readers, we had tried every reading app and book tracker available. And while many were functional, none of them felt... magical. They treated books as data points to be logged, not as portals to other worlds.
We wanted:
- Beauty - An app as enchanting as the books we read
- Depth - More than just "read/not read" checkboxes
- Connection - A community of readers who cared as deeply as we did
- Personality - Something that felt crafted with love, not assembled by algorithm
What we found were utilitarian tools that felt more like spreadsheets than libraries.
The Inspiration
The idea crystallized during a conversation about favorite childhood books. We remembered the magic of libraries—the smell of old paper, the ornate spines, the sense of endless possibility. We remembered the joy of discussing books with friends who truly understood.
Why couldn't a digital reading experience capture that feeling?
What if your virtual bookshelf felt like a cozy library corner? What if tracking your reading felt like keeping a magical journal? What if your reading app felt like coming home?
The Vision Takes Shape
We started sketching ideas:
- A fantasy theme that made the everyday act of logging a book feel special
- Beautiful bookshelves where books weren't just titles, but visual treasures
- Deep review features for readers who wanted to remember everything
- Achievements that celebrated reading milestones with genuine delight
- A community built around shared love of stories
The more we discussed, the clearer the vision became. We weren't building another reading tracker. We were creating Enchanted Reads—a magical home for book lovers.
The First Steps
With the vision defined, we faced the exciting (and terrifying) task of bringing it to life. We knew we wanted:
- A name that evoked wonder and warmth
- A visual identity rooted in fantasy and fairy tales
- Features that served readers' actual needs
- Technology that felt invisible, letting the magic shine
Those first sketches are still saved somewhere. They're rough, but looking at them now, you can see Enchanted Reads taking its first breath.
In the next part of our series, we'll explore how we went from sketches to code—the technical foundations that make the magic possible.
This is Part 1 of "The Making of Enchanted Reads," a 7-part series exploring how we built a reading app for book lovers.
